• About NHS

National Honor Society is more than achieving Honor Roll status.  While NHS membership is the true mark of academic achievement, it goes far beyond a report card. Interested students must all show they have demonstrated the ideals of Scholarship, Service, Leadership, & Good Character, to be inducted into NHS.  Members of NHS must continue to demonstrate these pillars within their school and community throughout their membership.

National Honor Society is based on the following four pillars:

    • Scholarship
Per national guidelines, at a minimum, students must have a cumulative Grade Point Average of 90%.
    • Service
Service involves voluntary contributions to the community, done without compensation.  Orchard Park High School encourages students to complete their service at not-for-profit agencies.  Students must log their service hours so the school can verify completion.  Please refer to the NHS Service Hours section for more detailed information on service.
    • Leadership
Student leaders are those who are resourceful, good problem solvers, and idea contributors.  Leadership experiences can be drawn from school or community activities while working with or for others.  Some examples of leadership include sports team captain, officer for student government, or officer for a club.
    • Character
A student of good character is cooperative; demonstrates high standards of honesty and reliability; shows courtesy, concern, and respect for others; and generally maintains a clean disciplinary record.
