2020-2021 Parent Information Series
The Orchard Park Central School District will be hosting a Parent Information Series during the 2020 - 2021 school year.
Helping Your Child be Effective with Anxiety
The Orchard Park Central School District will continue it’s 2020-2021 Parent Information Series with a virtual presentation Helping Your Child be Effective with Anxiety on Thursday, September 17th from 7 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.
The rate of anxiety in children is a mental health crisis with 1 in 3 children suffering from an anxiety disorder. Nearly 80% of these children and teens suffer without help. Students with anxiety often have academic and social challenges, in addition to being at risk for low self-esteem and substance abuse.
The webinar Helping Your Child be Effective with Anxiety created by AnxietyTraining.com founders Kimberly Morrow, LCSW and Elizabeth DuPont Spencer, LCSW-C, focuses on walking towards fear, talking back to worry, and sitting in discomfort as the keys to changing students' relationship with fear. It demonstrates the role of anxiety in families and how to partner with schools to help children live well with anxiety. The webinar teaches skills to shift out of avoidance and accommodations and into doing what the child values even when they feel anxious.
A link to the pre-recorded presentation will be available on our website www.opschools.org on Thursday, September 17th at 7 p.m. Parents and interested community members are encouraged to view this free presentation.
In addition to the Helping Your Child be Effective with Anxiety presentation the team at AnxietyTraining.com has provided the Orchard Park Central School District with additional resources for parents, students and staff that will be available on our website www.opschools.org beginning Friday, September 18th.
The 2020-2021 Parent Information Series will continue with a virtual presentation from 7 p.m. – 9 p.m. on October 8th Anti-Racist Tools for Parents and Caregivers presented by Dr. Diantha Watts, SUNY Brockport.
Supporting Your Children in a COVID World
The Orchard Park Central School District hosted it’s first 2020-2021 Parent Information Series with a virtual presentation Supporting Your Children in a COVID World on Thursday, September 3rd from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m.
Back to school is imminent, and many parents and kids are feeling lost. How will my child fare with the new COVID restrictions? How will I balance their needs with mine? How do I help my child navigate this new territory when I don’t even know what it is? Dr. Darci Cramer, a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, will use her expertise in family systems to help parents, in this interactive workshop focused on parenting kids going back to school in this epidemic. None of us have experience in this particular challenge, but relying on what we know about child development, parenting, and relationships, we can do our best to be there for our kids in this new venture.
