Parent Resources Regarding 13 Reasons Why
The trending Netflix series "13 Reasons Why," based on a young adult novel of the same name, has drawn the attention of youth across the country and in our own community. The series is about a high school student named Hannah who takes her own life, and leaves behind audio recordings for the 13 people who she feels in some way played a role in her suicide.
Movies, television shows, and books such as this can be thought-provoking, but they are potentially harmful. If your child is interested in this series, it is recommended you preview it to determine whether or not you feel your child is maturationally and emotionally prepared for the content. If, after previewing the series, you allow your child to view it, it is recommended you watch with him/her in order to provide guidance, answer questions, and to have a discussion on the topic.
