IMPORTANT INFORMATION REGARDING 12-14 RETURN TO IN-PERSON INSTRUCTION

  • December 11, 2020

    Dear Orchard Park Families:

We are very eager to welcome our students back into our school buildings this coming Monday, December 14th.  We look forward to continuing  quality in-person instruction before our winter recess.  Without knowing what the spring rates or zones may bring, it is important to take advantage of every opportunity we have to provide safe in-person instruction for our students.

In order to return to school while in an orange zone,  New York State requires districts to test 20% of staff and students who are in our buildings each month.  Last week Governor Cuomo loosened the regulations from having to test 100% of the population in schools to testing 20% per month while we remain in an orange zone.  This is more feasible for the District to accomplish and has allowed us the ability to return to in-person learning while still adding testing as an additional safety precaution.  To help accomplish the required testing, the District will be working with our community-based nursing partner, Aveanna Healthcare, to begin on-site testing for students and staff beginning on Monday, December 14th.

We realize that many parents have questions about exactly how the testing process is going to work.  We have put together an FAQ document to answer many of the most common questions the district and our buildings have been receiving.

    On-Site COVID-19 Testing FAQ

The District has also created a test demonstration for you and your children to watch to become familiar with the ease of the test and exactly how it will be administered.

Thank you for your continued support and partnership as we navigate these unprecedented times.

    Sincerely,

IN PERSON LEARNING TO RESUME ON DECEMBER 14, 2020

  • December 7, 2020

Last week, Governor Cuomo announced new school testing guidelines in order for schools to return to in-person instruction in Orange and Red Zones. We have received and reviewed that final guidance and beginning on December 14, 2020 (B-day)  we are ready to safely resume in-person learning for our students.  Student COVID-19 testing will also begin on Monday, December 14th.

In order to resume in person learning in an Orange or Red Zone, schools had to obtain a license to administer the COVID-19 test on site.   We recently received approval for our license and have received the testing kits. The required  testing for students and staff for COVID-19 is as follows:

    • Testing would be done on an ongoing basis for schools in Orange & Red Zones.
    • Orange Zone testing needs to be 20% of the in-person staff/faculty/students over a month.
    •  Red Zone testing needs to be 30% of the in-person staff/faculty/students over a month.

If you have not already done so, please fill out the Consent for Student Rapid COVID-19 Testing that you received via email on December 3rd.

Please click the link below to view a Binax Rapid Test Demonstration for COVID-19.

    Test Demonstration

We believe that it is best for students to learn in person and we will continue to implement all of the health and safety procedures we had in place to open schools prior to this brief closure.   If you have any questions, please reach out to your building principal.

We look forward to resuming in person learning and our teachers and staff look forward to welcoming students back on campus.

    Sincerely,

    Matthew McGarrity
    Superintendent of Schools
