COVID-19 UPDATE FROM SUPERINTENDENT MCGARRITY 2-5 -21 AND TRAVEL GUIDELINE REMINDER

  •  February 5, 2021

    Dear Orchard Park Families:

The District has no new cases of COVID-19 to report today.

As some of you may be planning travel for our upcoming February recess I wanted to remind families that if you travel to a non-contiguous state, your children must follow the travel quarantine guidelines as determined by the NYSDOH prior to their return to school.  These guidelines still apply even if you have received a COVID vaccine.

    • For travelers who were out-of-state for more than 24 hours:

      • Travelers must obtain a test within three days of departure, prior to arrival in New York.
      • The traveler must, upon arrival in New York, quarantine for three days.
      • On day 4 of their quarantine, the traveler must obtain another COVID test. If both tests come back negative, the traveler may exit quarantine early upon receipt of the second negative diagnostic test.
      • Copies of both tests will need to be provided to the District (your child’s school nurse) prior to being permitted to return to school.

    • For travelers who were out-of-state for less than 24 hours:

      • The traveler does not need a test prior to their departure from the other state, and does not need to quarantine upon arrival in New York State.
      • However, the traveler must fill out our traveler form upon entry into New York State, and take a COVID diagnostic test 4 days after their arrival in New York.

For further information, please visit the following website:

    https://coronavirus.health.ny.gov/covid-19-travel-advisory

If you do need to quarantine due to travel, your child will have access to asynchronous work during their absences.

Please note if your family does opt to travel over the recess we will be seeking evidence of a negative COVID-19 test, conducted by a lab, a medical facility or provider.

As always thank you for your continued support.

    Sincerely,

    Matthew McGarrity,
    Superintendent of Schools
