Potential Return to Full-Time In-Person Instruction for Grades 6-12

  • May 10, 2021

    Dear Orchard Park Families:

As you may know, the Orchard Park Central School District has been part of an ongoing court case to return students to full-time in person learning.  On Friday, State Supreme Court Justice Emilio Colaiacovo ordered “so long as community transmission rates are at, or closely near to, 100 per 100,000 people, the Williamsville and Orchard Park School Districts shall return to in-person, full-time instruction for middle and high school students effective May 17, 2021.   The District will monitor the transmission rates and update you if there is any additional guidance from the court affecting this return date.

COVID transmission rates in Erie County have been steadily decreasing.  If rates continue to decrease to below or near 100 cases per 100,000 the Orchard Park Central School District will shift to full-time in person instruction in grades 6-12 beginning on Monday, May 17.  Therefore, the hybrid model will no longer be an option after May 14, 2021  Students who are currently enrolled in the fully remote learning program will not have a change to their educational program. The District has always recognized that in-person instruction provides the best learning environment for our students and we are looking forward to being able to provide that on a daily basis to our students once again.

Finally, we will be hosting a Virtual Parent Meeting to review the plan to return hybrid students in grades 6-12 to full-time.  The meeting will be held on Thursday May 13th, at 7 p.m. in a webinar format.  Information regarding the meeting and how to register to attend will be available on our website and emailed to parents the afternoon of May 11th.  If you have district level questions there will be an opportunity to have them answered within the webinar.  If your questions are building or child specific please contact your child’s building principal directly.

    Sincerely,

    Matthew McGarrity,
    Superintendent of Schools
