Spanish is the earth's second most spoken language in terms of people who have learned this language from birth . With its 329 million native speakers, Spanish is a main or a predominant language in 44 different countries of our world. (Source: Ethnologue - see link on home page) Spanish, which derived from the Latin of the ancient Romans, is also one of the world's most phonetic languages. This means that after you learn the sound patterns of the language, you can almost always correctly pronounce a word once you see how it is spelled. Also interesting is the fact that after Latin, the second most influental language on the development of modern Spanish has been Arabic.
