How students apply to the OPHS Academy of Finance
Acceptance into the Academy of Finance can benefit students in many ways! Academically, they will take several rigorous and relevant courses that focus on business and personal financial skills, including a financial literacy course. Special features of the program include an internship, co-curricular events, a student run store and an on-site credit union branch. Members of our Advisory Board, consisting of over 40 local business people, serve as guest speakers in the classroom. The skills learned from the Academy of Finance can be applied to any career or collegiate course of study!
HOW DOES MY CHILD APPLY FOR THE ACADEMY OF FINANCE?
If you believe that your son/daughter might be interested in being a part of the OPHS Academy of Finance, he/she should attend our information session scheduled on Tuesday, January 21, 2020 at the Middle School in the "Back Cafeteria" Room at 2:35 PM. (Parents of 8th graders at OPMS will receive more information through a PowerSchool notification on or about January 6th, 2020.) At this session the program and application process will be discussed and the application materials for parent review will be distributed. No commitment needs to be made by your son/daughter during this session.
You may reserve a space for him/her by e-mailing Mr. Patrick Loftus (firstname.lastname@example.org) as soon as possible, but no later than January 17, 2020 with your son/daughter’s full name. In the subject line or box of your e-mail please indicate the Academy of Finance.
If your child cannot make the information session but you are still interested in more information about the Academy of Finance, see your child’s curriculum handbook, middle school guidance office (OPMS Guidance will also have extra application packets after 1/21), or contact Mr. Patrick Loftus at email@example.com.
** Current OPHS 9th Graders who may be interested in any remaining / open slots will follow a similar process and timeline. They should contact Mr. Loftus directly anytime after January 6th and before the end of February 14th, 2020 for more information and application materials. **
