Beginning May 15th the 33rd year of ArtSplash will kick off along with the first ever ArtWalk. A virtual exhibit of ArtSplash will be posted to the Orchard Park Visual Art Boosters (OPVAB) website. The first ArtWalk will take place throughout the village of Orchard Park primarily along North and South Buffalo St. All student artwork will be located in business windows facing the street so work can be viewed safely outdoors while socially distanced. Orchard Park Middle School social studies teacher Daryl Helfman was selected as the 2021 recipient of the Academy for Human Rights’ Reed Taylor Award for Excellence in Human Rights Education. The award is named in living honor of local Holocaust educator Dr. Reed Taylor, the designation is meant to honor a teacher who inspires their students and colleagues to live a life of service that is dedicated toward humanity. Orchard Park has been honored with the Best Communities for Music Education designation from The NAMM Foundation for its outstanding commitment to music education for the fifth year in a row. Now in its 22nd year, the Best Communities for Music Education designation is awarded to districts that demonstrate outstanding achievement in efforts to provide music access and education to all students. To qualify for the Best Communities designation, Orchard Park answered detailed questions about funding, graduation requirements, music class participation, instruction time, facilities, support for the music programs, Responses were verified with school officials and reviewed by The Music Research Institute at the University of Kansas.
