OPHS Drama Club Presents "Chicago: Teen Edition"

The Orchard Park High School Drama Club is proud to present Chicago:Teen Edition. Adapted for young performers, the Bob Fosse, John Kander and Fred Ebb musical will be presented March 16-19. (not suitable for children under 12) Set in Prohibition-Era Chicago, aspiring performer Roxie Hart murders a faithless lover and convinces her hapless husband, Amos, to take the rap... until he finds out he's been duped and turns on Roxie. Convicted and sent to death row, Roxie and another "Merry Murderess," Velma Kelly, vie for the spotlight and the headlines. With the help of “celebrity” attorney, Billy Flynn, and the corrupt but helpful Matron Mama Morton, they ultimately join forces in search of the "American Dream": fame, fortune, and acquittal. This sharp-edged satire features a dazzling score by Kander and Ebb and delivers an homage to legendary director and choreographer Bob Fosse. With the iconic songs, All That Jazz, Cell Block Tango and Razzle Dazzle, Chicago:Teen Edition will delight audiences who have seen the show and captivate those seeing it for the first time. OPMS Egyptian Expo Returns

Throughout the month of January, Enterprise students at OPMS have been exploring Ancient Egypt. Each student posed a question of their choice, and utilized books, websites and databases to answer their focus question. The culmination of their work was presented in a final project, showcased in the school library on Thursday, January 26. This marked the return of the Egyptian Expo, the first in three years!  Mrs. Daniszewski and Mrs. Hartke were excited to bring it back and work with Mr. Kloster and Mrs. Tempestoso in the Library!

7th Grade Spanish Students Prepared for el Día de los 3 Reyes Magos

Students in 7th Grade Spanish prepared for el Día de los 3 Reyes Magos, traditionally celebrated on January 6th in many Spanish Speaking Countries and the United States by constructing and decorating mini boxes for the 3 Kings to leave treats (as done in Puerto Rico). Students learned about foods like the Rosca de Reyes, and how families around the world celebrate this continued Christmas Season. These lessons with Mrs. Kinsley, Mrs. Loftus, and Mrs. Pikula create opportunities for understanding cultural perspectives when they create products and practices while learning authentic language and customs used in different countries.

OPMS Students Become FAA certified Recreational Drone Pilots

Mr. Gill, OPMS Technology Teacher, offered his 8th grade students an opportunity to take the FAA Recreational Drone Pilot exam. Already, approximately 50 middle school students have become FAA certified Recreational Drone Pilots and more students have pledged to take the exam soon! This means that the students have the basic understanding to safely fly their drones for non-commercial purposes. With the immense access to drones that students have outside of school, it is wonderful that so many students will now have the knowledge of how to conduct safe drone flights when they are flying on their own.
