Career and Technical Education

  • OPHS students have access to Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs at the Erie 2 BOCES Ormsby Educational Center.  Students enrolled in an approved CTE program acquire the skills, knowledge, and professional practices necessary for success in college and the workforce.  Students experience relevant, challenging, industry-aligned curricula supported by current technology in learning environments that foster high academic achievement and skill development.  Course work is organized to provide both theory and hands-on experiences.

*A majority of OPHS students go to the Ormsby Center through Erie 2 BOCES for their CTE programs.  There may be additional programs offered through Erie 1 BOCES that a student can access.  Please see your high school counselor for more information.

Most CTE programs are two-year programs that begin in a student's junior year.  Juniors spend the first five periods at OPHS and then go to the Ormsby Center for the rest of their day.  Seniors spend the first four periods at the Ormsby center and return to OPHS for the rest of their day.  Students sign up for the programs with their high school counselor in the winter of their sophomore year.

The New Visions in Precision Manufacturing and Engineering program is an academically rigorous one-year E2CCB Career and Technical Education program.  It is designed for seniors interested in gaining exposure in a real-life work setting.  The half-day program allows students to spend the morning working alongside machinists, technicians, and engineers in various aspects/phases of production.  The goal of the program is for students to develop a complete foundation of the precision manufacturing process, from design to fabrication.  Together with regional partners including PCB Piezotronics, Inc., SUNY Erie and Niagara County Community College, New Visions will help prepare the workforce of the future — today.  The program is housed at PCB Piezotronics in Depew, NY and students must provide their own transportation.  Interested students should see their high school counselor in the winter of their junior year to obtain information on the application process.
