This summer, Eggert Elementary welcomed its new Assistant Principal, Ms. Stephanie Hall. Ms. Hall comes to Orchard Park from the Grand Island Central School District. She spent thirteen years working for Grand Island in the primary building as both a Kindergarten and first-grade teacher. Ms. Hall spent the last eight years of her career as a first-grade teacher and part of a co-teaching team in an inclusion classroom. She plans to bring this team mentality to Eggert. She hopes to work with the families, faculty, staff, and administration to ensure success for all students. Ms. Hall is looking forward to becoming part of the Orchard Park community.
Mrs. Matesic's Pre-K class at Eggert Elementary has been learning about chicks. Blake M. a former student of Mrs. Matesic's brought in fertilized eggs from his grandfather's cabin for the students to observe and learn from. Students learned about the chick life cycle, used an ovascope to view the development inside the eggs along the way, and counted down the days until the eggs hatched. After one week in Pre-K, the chicks made their way back home with Blake.

Over the course of the summer, the spaces that once housed the elementary computer labs have been renovated to create elementary STEM classrooms. The renovation includes flexible and collaborative seating options, open floor space for robotics lessons, Lego walls and dry erase surfaces and upgraded classroom technology. Students in grades K-5 will have STEM once every 6 days which is approximately thirty STEM classes per school year. Click here to learn more about the K-5 STEM program.
Former Eggert Elementary students and members of Girl Scout Troop 30517 wanted to give back to the Eggert Elementary Community, so they created an outdoor classroom for students and faculty to enjoy. Troop members cleared a pathway, created a border with old tree limbs, wheelbarrowed eight yards of stone, and constructed bench seating for classrooms to use at the end of the trail outside of Eggert Elementary.
