    Classroom Management

Classroom rules and expectations will be created by our class and enforced throughout the year. Our classroom will be a caring community that teaches respect, responsibility and really good manners.

    Communication

Every Friday, your child will bring home a Friday Folder with work completed during the week.  Please feel free to comment or ask questions in the Friday Folder signature section. We will communicate with each of you on a weekly basis regarding classroom activities, classroom work, etc. Please be sure to sign your child's Friday Folder each week.

     Reading Log

Although reading is not assigned each night as homework, it is important that your child read each night to develop both fluency and comprehension. Your child will have a reading log in class each day to log and track the minutes read during our Reader's Workshop lesson. Please also encourage your child to read and log each night at home to ensure growth with reading!

    Homework

Homework assignments are written daily in agendas and explained at the end of the day.  Students can expect nightly assignments in spelling, reading, and/or math.  Generally the activities will take approximately 30 minutes of uninterrupted time. Homework assignments are a time for practicing the day’s work and are to be done independently.  Parents are encouraged to review the work and provide guidance, where needed.  At this age, students should be held responsible for completing the assignments, as well as returning them to school on their own.  If your child is having difficulty completing work, please let me know.

    Recess

Weather permitting, our class is scheduled for outdoor recess for 15 minutes a day 4x per week. Those children who go out during winter months are required to have boots, hats, gloves and a warm coat.

    Snacks

Healthy snacks are allowed and encouraged each day.
Our snack time is set for the afternoon.

    Absences

If a student will be absent from school, please call the Health Office before 9:00 A.M. so we can gather the assignments that your child may work on at home.  Please indicate if you are picking the work up or if it is to be sent home with another student.
