About UPK
- The UPK program is limited to children who will be four years old on or by December 1st of the year when they start the program. To qualify for UPK during the 2026-2027 school year, the child's birthday must fall between December 2, 2021, and December 1, 2022. A child who is age-eligible to attend kindergarten is NOT eligible for the UPK program. If you have elected to keep your child home for an extra year rather than enroll in school when eligible, he/she is not eligible for the UPK program. Unfortunately, exceptions can not be made.
- The Orchard Park Central School District offers the UPK program at each elementary school - Eggert Elementary, Ellicott Elementary, South Davis Elementary, and Windom Elementary. There is no lottery if you wish to attend a district elementary school.
- We also partner with local preschool providers who offer the UPK program - BrightPath Childcare and Smarty Pants Childcare. If you are interested in attending a community partner and there is more interest than available spots, we will hold a lottery to determine placement.
- For the 2026-2027 school year, we will be offering a full-day UPK program (6 hours). The program is offered from 9:00 am - 3:15 pm, Monday through Friday. We do not offer any ½ day or partial-week attendance programs (for example, only attending 1-4 days a week).
- Brightpath Childcare and Smarty Pants Childcare may offer before/after school (wrap-around) childcare for an additional fee. Registering for the UPK program does not guarantee you wrap-around care. You have to register and submit payment directly with the provider once you have obtained a UPK placement. The wrap-around care fee schedule is determined by each preschool provider. OPCSD has no involvement in each facility's fee schedule or the availability of the care. There is NO before/after school care offered to UPK students at the four district elementary schools.
- The program will follow the school district calendar, with an anticipated 180 days of student attendance.
- New this year - bus transportation will be provided for all UPK students who are four years old.
